Berry Good

Anticipation is in the early morning air and the sun is shining. It’s market time! It was a bit of a schmozzle getting set up amongst the other 200 odd stallholders, I waited very patiently for 30 mins in the queue of cars just to get through the gates and set up. As we were unpacking I overheard a few people mutter as they walked past our stall, “They’re not very organised, must have slept in”. “Yo!” I wanted to shout at their retreating backs, “I’ve been up since 5:30 this morning damn it!” But I didn’t, cause I’m nice, and I wanted their money.

My first bargain of the day was a green metal meat safe that made a perfect prop for the stall, no hesitation required there. We nabbed a great spot near the gates with a smattering of shade. We had a steady stream of browsers and happily buyers too, lots of lovely customers with plenty of compliments for our stall, many saying it was their fav of the whole market. Aww, thanks guys!

Zoe came along to be my helper and keep me company for the day. I sent her off later in the day in search of snacks and she came back with egg and bacon sarnies and a bunch of Peonies for me. Sneaky! Keep her on!

The weather gods smiled on us with plenty of sunshine until the arvo when they spat down rain as we ran about trying frantically to pack and cover our goods. Nothing like a good dose of panic to pack up quickly. A quick trip to the Berry Woodfired Bakery on the way home sweetened the pack up chore with a choc hazelnut tart and we finished up the day at North Gong pub for a counter meal and a well deserved G&T. We’ll definitely be back next month!
