The Birds & the Trees

I had just enough time to whip up these 2 cushions in between study yesterday. It was a great distraction! I’ve made them from my limited edition original design “The Birds & the Trees”, hand screenprinted with love! They’re backed with vibrant colourful fabrics. It feels pretty darn good to see a design right through to the end and become a lustworthy cushion. I feel it’s the start of years of cushion making…

The Highlands Handmade Autumn Fair was a month ago! How is that possible?! Time seems to be dashing past, it’s blink and you miss it. It was a fun day as always, the hall beautifully decorated and organised. Quieter on numbers but still a great day. Thanks Naomi and Nicky! See you in July for the next one!

C Grade

My study load takes up nearly every moment right now and I can’t see that changing anytime soon as the assignments just keep rolling in. For an assignment due next week I’ve already done 65 drawings and that’s for just one part of it! I got the results back for the first half of my Harry Potter assignment and I got a Distinction! Then I read the marking guide again (and this time correctly) and that Distinction was actually a Credit. I was shy by one mark, one lousy mark…

For my most recent assignment that I handed in on Monday I spent hours cutting out hundreds of little petal shapes to create the paper flowers I was using for my modern spin on a traditional damask design. Tedious but satisfying. Myf supervised and tried to eat them. Here’s hoping this one cracks the distinction grade!

This course is a toughie and a real challenge but is fantastic. I can see the changes already in my approach to my designs. Stupid I know but I was so worried that I’d run out of ideas straight away and they’d kick me out as some kind of imposter but it’s the opposite. Drawing and creating everyday is stimulating and inspiring and the ideas really do flow. And the printing side of it is just the best.

It was about time. I don’t think I’ve bought joggers since high school. City to Surf, it’s on!

Across the pond

While over in England last-minute preparations and wedding festivities are in full swing for my gorgeous cousin’s wedding tomorrow. It’s going to be an amazing family do and we’re all sad here at our end that we can’t attend, but we’ll be thinking of them and celebrating them with a toast or 2. Biggest congratulations Emma & Matt, I know you’ll have a ball :)

Out in the shed

The shed at Wombat Hollow certainly scrubbed up nicely for El & Geoff’s wedding last weekend. As expected it was funny, genuine and oh so romantic. Myself and most of the guests shed a tear or 2, including the blokes. A beautiful ceremony, followed by plenty of sparkling drinks, delicious food and great company. All the best El & Geoff :)

Knot tying

It’s wedding time today and the start of wedding season here and afar! It’s Geoff and Ellie’s turn today to tie the knot, family friends we’ve known since we moved here 24 odd years ago. We’ll be there celebrating with them this arvo in the old shed out at Kangaloon. It’s gonna be a fun day and just in case this warm but cloudy day turns to a rainy evening I’ve got my gumboots packed ready :)
